South Pole Slideshow II
Friday, June 22nd, 2007A while ago I published a South Pole slideshow and screensaver. I recently discovered JumpCut and promptly put together a 1 minute version of the slideshow. It has the same pictures but runs a lot faster and the paning of the panoramas doesn’t work that well. Still, a good option for those of you who don’t want to download the 30MB installer.
Mid-Winter Greetings
Thursday, June 21st, 2007Time sure flies! I haven’t even put up my sunset posting and it is already Mid-Winter.
It is a longstanding tradition that the Antarctic stations send each other some Mid-Winter greetings. So, over the last few days they have been trickling in.
I think the prize for the most poetic one goes to the Uruguayans. Here is what they wrote:
The Antarkos 23 Crew of Artigas Scientific Base in Antarctica, has the pleasure to greet you in this Solstice of winter.
We hoped, that like in our base, the bows of union, solidarity and the Antarctic confraternity prioritize on the differences and in this moment of meditation it could be good time to extract the purest feelings existing in our hearts.
Taking advantage on the occasion, we invited all of you to approach to our base, the night of the Mid Winter on June 21st, 2007, where we will make a toast by the solstice and a ceremony of “reception” for the novices who for the first time feel in their skin the rigor of the Antarctic Winter.
Happy Solstice day
Happy Antarctica Confraternity Day
Happy Mid-Winter Day
